Richmond & Twickenham Easy CyclingTour
A delightful scenic and historic ride along both sides of the Thames on a leisurely 3 hour loop from Richmond. It’s suitable for even the most occasional cyclist, with easy pedalling and lots of stops for talks and photos.
Highlights: You get to see many top attractions led by a friendly local guide. Experience a microcosm of British history, royal and architectural heritage, picturesque riverside and wildlife.
Pedal past beautiful Richmond Green and see the Old Palace remains, the villas of Twickenham riverside, quirky Eel Pie Island and Strawberry Hill House, continuing round to Teddington Lock, where the tidal and non-tidal Thames meet.
We cross over Teddington Lock and pedal back to Richmond along the Thames towpath, passing the great Jacobean mansion Ham House, water meadows with grazing cattle and ride beneath the capital’s oldest bridge to reach Richmond station.
Dates: Wednesdays 22 August & 5 September 2018.
Times: Depart Richmond rail station 10.30 returning around 13.30.
Duration & Distance: 7 miles (11 kilometres). Approximately 3 hours including stops.
Cost: Adult £40, Senior/Student ID £35, Child 10-16 £30 All bookings must be prebooked and paid in advance. Tours are limited to 10 people. Group discounts are available. Regretfully no children under 10.
Check-in: Check-in 10.15 for 10.30 departure. Depart from Richmond railway station TW9 2NA (trains from London Waterloo, London Overground and London Underground District Line).
At Richmond Station, check-in first at the Richmond Station Cycle Centre on the platform level to collect your bike and pay the returnable security deposit.
Fitness & cycling skill requirement: Ideal for people who haven’t ridden a bike in years. However, you will still need to be reasonably fit.
Exception: No children under 10 years old. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and wear a safety helmet.
Terrain: Flat and mostly off-road, on paved paths and gravel tracks. Limited on-road sections along quiet side roads or dedicated cycling lanes, including a small stretch of the London Olympics 2012 cycling route.
Inclusions: Bike hire with security lock and safety helmet.
Exclusions: Returnable deposit for bicycle hire.
Additional information: The route may vary at times of exceptionally high tides.
About the bikes: Your multi-geared hybrid bikes will be ready and waiting for you at Richmond station. These quality bikes are kept in tip top condition and come in different frame sizes and variations for males and females.
What to bring: You may wish to bring a light rucksack to carry drinking water and clothing, including waterproofs, according to the time of year and weather forecast. Don’t forget your camera.
